Did you try backing out one screen previous the character selection (I believe it's back to the Server select screen) and go back in? Recently I've gotten blank character selection screens the first time I go into it with each new login. Haven't gotten it for a couple days though but thought it was worth making sure you tried getting into the Char Select a couple of times. I don't know of any character wipe over the last two years or anything and it was about that long ago when I started and stopped and just recently picked it back up again and all my characters were still here.
