DOTA seems weird in the sense that names like Volibear would turn into "Enraged Grizzly" or something... I hate their naming system.

That's because Dota 1 used two names for each hero, one to represent the "class" and one to represent the personal name. Like "Kardel Sharpeye" The Sniper... He's just called The Sniper in dota 2 because blizzard has copy rights on some of the names. And "Pudge" The Butcher... Butcher is a common blizzard reference to diablo.

how is denying a dumb mechanic? it forces you to choose when to deny and when to farm. denying also gives opportunity for a support to be more useful early game.
gold loss on death means there is a greater emphasis on not dying, unlike LoL where dying doesn't really matter
plus no one from LoL likes to admit the entire game's style, 75% of the heroes, 75% of the abilities is a direct rip off from dota 1
