My 2 cents on this situation actually boiled down to what moods I'm in - let me explain.

When I want to be social ... Ogre warrior. Pure melee class - not clicking spell bubbles - hit the auto attack and make sure I'm swinging in the right direction. This allows more time to type in the group window! The exp penalty of an ogre really doesn't "feel" that bad as a warrior. I felt it more while trying to play a ogre shammy versus the warrior class. As a warrior grouping is the way to be. You're just going to have to get used to that if playing this class. I've made a "assist on me" button, so the group knows what mob I'm on ... this is handy for chanters who keep mezzing adds. I learned how to position mobs and I learn the zones when pulling. If you get a reputation as a good puller / group friendly / manage mobs / stand in place to allow people to flee when things get bad ... you won't have any problem finding groups.

When I don't want to be social, or don't have time to play for huge lengths of time - I play a Ikky necro. I can solo all day long - occasional group, but sparse. I tried playing a DE necro, and I found it rather overpopulated. I love the skull cap - they are thick skinned - can re-gen - overall the best devilish type character for this class in my opinion. I can feel the exp penalty .... but its really cannon fodder when with minimal armor and mana I can still solo even and yellow cons. The starter areas are good, and the necro can farm if needed. So, it's the kind of swiss army knife of characters that can play this game when time and equipment are hard to come by. I can't swarm kite - or quad kite - but I can fear kite. At a very early age I can travel through just about any zone. Because I can Gather Shadows at 8 - Bind at 12 - Feign Death at 16. So, when someone yells train to zone - I kill my pet and FD. I stand up when train is gone and I get "tells" with people asking if they can pay me to find / summon their corpse.

So as you can see - it depends on the mood for me. Utility classes in general are groupish all the time for the most part. They are great to play to understand how they work - this just makes you a better player in my opinion. Be prepared to have a lot of people begging you for buffs, or yelling at ya when haste drops or their buff drops. You will be constantly standing and sitting - and God forbid they ask you to be a primary healer ... on top of coming up with the mana to buff them.

The CON to my list is that both these classes ... necro / warrior ... with the exception of the necro to some degree ... really aren't money generators as themselves. Yea we can farm with the necro - but he can't carry much and is difficult using vendors. The warrior can't do much solo at higher levels - cant really jump in Guk and farm. So what do I do for cash ... trade-skills. My Ikky is a smith - my warrior is a fletcher. I have a boat load of arrows for myself - but it's great to sell them when people need them in the middle of nowhere. Banded armor and some plate sells pretty good, along with other things that I've been known to make. I use this money to fuel tailoring - making food. I can always seem to generate enough cash at times to get me to the next mark of equipment.

So, to wrap this up - I have my two "Moods" of game play I enjoy very much. I hope my 2 cents of game play helps with making a decision. You can try other great grouping classes like Chanty and Wizard - that choice is yours. I found a pure melee is relaxing when I'm socializing - and pure caster is challenging and keeps me busy when running solo.
