I have the same mindset and am in the same position i.e. set a series of goals to work towards, and do not accept handouts (besides buffs and the odd bind - thanks Sarena [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]) nor plan to purchase dropped equipment, unless player crafted.

Buying a full set of Cloth Armour helps, although you can also obtain - albeit slowly - from mobs (Decaying Skeletons seem to drop Cloth, plus Rusty Weapons). Some early goals:
  • Low-level Spells
  • Large Backpacks
  • Armour Upgrades (Silk via Tailoring)

Start looking ahead at your next set of spells and start to save. Loot and vendor most items, saving bone chip / bat wing stacks, various LQ / MQ / HQ pelts for players, and you should be on the way to self-sufficiency. The odd Cracked Staff drop brings in just over 1 plat.

You also have Crushbone / Deathfist Belts, Derv Rings, Bandit Sashes, not to mention GL (Greater Lightstones - requires Magic Weapon to kill Wisps) for additional options to make plat. There are various lowbie quests that you could fulfil, dependent on faction.

In terms of levelling, depends on race [faction hits]. I actually prefer the out of left field options such as finding a lowbie group (6th/7th level) and heading to Southern Ro. Lots of roaming mobs to pull by the Oasis zone line, and there are plenty of Orc camps as you get higher - without the perma camps present in EC. The flip side is that it is a longer and potentially dangerous CR (Corpse Run) - unless you can bind yourself in either FP or Grobb.

First time I played, I suffered (and still do) from Wanderlust - my Chanter could be found in various zones around Antonica. I absolutely loved running across the Karanas from FP to Qeynos (Invis at level 4 helps). At present, my Chanter has relocated from Nektulos to Innothule. Not only am I pleased to be surrounded by Troll brethren, but I'm rapidly improve my swimming, and can decimate my Froglok faction (ha!) looting Woven. Upper Guk and Southern Ro are but a zone away ..

Whatever way you choose to play, enjoy yourself [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Cheers!
