Yeah I mean, on one hand otaku culture is definitely fraught with problems and I generally steer clear of people who self-identify as otaku/weeaboo because it can be a really gross form of cultural appropriation/fetishism.

But on the other, I would never dismiss masterworks like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke and the like just because there's a reprehensible subculture beneath the perfectly acceptable mainstream stuff.
