I don't think Ragefire will pull away many p1999ers because:
1) They want something up to velious or luclin, not after (Ragefire will progress after luclin)
2) Many don't want a modern retake either; ooc regen, non-classic quests/items, etc
2) People on live who're already paying the $15/month sub are more likely to play Ragefire
I think only people here who'll go to play on it are people who may want to try the normal servers or return to some of their characters on the normal servers AND pay the $15/month fee for the bonuses. Lets face it, the bulk of teh people who want Ragefire are likely already subbed to live right now or have at least played there recently.
I played for free last year on live. It was fun. Maybe if I returned and played some more i'd want to sub. But honestly I'd want to sub to play the normal servers. If I want classic, I'd come to p1999. Nothing beats it for the era it's made. BUT having said that, I enjoyed the POP and SOF/SOD eras, minus the Mckenzie mission bridge content patches. The Mckenzie missions were put in POK and basically a fast way to get lvl 80 characters into UF and after. Cheap gimmick bridge content. There was some fun to be had in the Mckenzie missions, but it's not EQ. It's an instanced monster mission. It's like a joke lacking subtlety. Look so I understand they want bridge content to move leveling players into higher tier content, but can't they respect the game? Even a shred of respect would include modifying the gameplay in SOD, but they did not. Mckenzie missions were the way to go.
You know what I always find ironic about all this??? I hated grinding things for quests in EQ. I hated that. I hated having to camp a ph for something to get to the next stage in a quest. That's obviously sucky. Or having to wait until you have X of something, grinding the same spot killing dozens of said creatures. Those things to me are what need to be addressed. But please don't destroy the game in the process. Don't kill the Risk vs Reward. Don't kill consequences. God, can these people do anything right? And don't evne think about suggesting more monster missions. They shoot themselves in the foot.
