I dont understand the draw to teams, what is the difference, except for a forced behavior that everyone seems to froth at the mouth about on red99 right now?

The dynamic is different. A team server usually has a safe starting zone for the newbie where he can group up with others of the same race and meet others in defense of his teams side. Anyone not on your team is a clearly defined bad guy, and you can clearly tell they are bad guys because they are a different race and nametag color.
A FFA server is the opposite as the people in your starting zone are all trying to kill you and take your spell money and you really can't trust anyone.
Team server would easily carry more population than FFA simply because it nurses the casual blue player to a higher level. The most popular MMO in the world uses the two team pvp concept, as it creates a safe starting area, but also has pvp when you venture out.
