/who all (zone name)
or
/who all (your level range)
send tells to people in your level range that are in xp zones you'd like to hit.
I find if a group is about to lose a tank or a healer they'll look through LFG, but they are pretty lazy at filling DPS slots... and generally they'll assume necromancers are busy soloing and not to be interrupted.
So yeah, get busy sending out tells, being friendly and chatting.
I suck at EQ and my characters tend to have sucky gear, but if you play for a few days on one guy people start to remember you and will invite you back if they like you.
