If it helps, as a cleric I used to root (L5) if the warrior was struggling...and yes I'd send him a tell first.
I'd rather burn small mana on a root than large mana healing everyone else who cba to FD, evade or nuke at a sensible percentage

edit: the best warriors knew when something got rooted by spell effects or paying attention to the combat log and would instantly hug the mob.
