Will the overclocking show enhanced graphics and quicker load times? A guy at work today made it seem if I wasn't going to SLI then he didnt get why I want to overclock and now come to think about it, I don't really know why either. I don't know jack about OC. Never had a system that could do it. Does it make games look even better or perform better? I would assume both or one of the two.
I just really want to play games with smooth frames and some kind of quality to its visuals

Going from the FX-6300 to the i5 4690k will be like night and day. Mainly, it's going to increase your MINIMUM framerates in games - this is likely your problem right now.
I'm running a single gtx 980 and the i5 4670K CPU (generation before your 4690k). My CPU runs @ 3.4ghz but the MSI motherboard BIOS just sets the CPU automatically to 3.9ghz (the CPUs turbo boost speed).
A 4690k and gtx 970 should be able to run just about any game on the market at 60+FPS, ultra graphics settings, and 1080p resolution.
