We did it last night until the last wave (with Dev recording from several spots with FRAPs).
Giants still lag/ghost run after being rooted, but it's not as bad as it was before last patch. Especially the last waves, you want to have a Tank in melee range on every Giant or they will run - someone with snare/root backing them up is nice.
We ultimately lost because a Priest giant fell under the world and found it's way to the zone in.
