There was a thread on the forums here (I think it may be in the text only archive area now) about editing existing textures to create "hi res" textures of the old EQ base textures using a program called s3dspy.

It lets you unpack the .s3d texture files, extract the bmp (bitmap) images and edit/re-insert modified ones.

I decided to take it a lil further and instead of updating the old texture to be higher res, simply changed it out for a different texture.

In the first gif I replaced a few textures (the cloth hood, the face and the chest texture).

In the second one, I just edited one of the erudite female face textures to be a black square with two white rectangles and voila a full plate helm look (that was my first attempt at it and I spent about 10 minutes on it).

I don't think you could use them in tandem though since they both are facial texture updates (you could edit the plate helm texture to a cooler look than flat robe though).

There is also a better program for this than s3dspy but I can't remember the name (it's installed on my laptop and was available via sourceforge - I'll check when I get home).
Thanks, I could have fun with this. Does it extract models too?
