The duo were basically claiming, they had a right to compete with you over mobs you were clearly pulling. You, despite the fact it was probably unpleasant, gave them exactly what they claimed they wanted: competition over mobs. They lost, your group won.
I would say, that is how it's done. Your moral compass seems fine to me. Your camp was established and killing stuff ded. You weren't the one that decided it was ffa time.
