That's such a capitalist mentality.

While I find your idea of capitalism flattering, I don't think you have to be a capitalist to believe hard work is necessary to accomplishing goals.

Why would i need to "work" for it? These are virtual items, they're not finite, like money or physical resources.

Because working towards a goal is what has driven people to play games for thousands of years. Game: a form of play or sport, especially a competitive one played according to rules and decided by skill, strength, or luck.
Striving to become more skilled at the game is inherent in the concept of a game. Competition is also inherent in the traditional concept of games, even when it is competition with oneself. It is what has driven people to compete in sports, become good at Poker, study chess, play arcade games, etc. The game sets up a goal and it is for you to overcome obstacles to achievement. It has driven people to play games for thousands of years, long before capitalism allowed people to keep what they earned.

You people are weird. You can only find contentment and happiness, not by the fact that you have good gear, but by the fact that other people have worse gear than you.
|
That is like saying Olympic athletes only find contentment and happiness in the fact they are better at the sport than you. It is a distortion of their aim, they want to be the best. It says more about you than it does about them that you choose to view people wanting goals and obstacles to overcome as only being happy when they are better than you.

Your satisfaction in this game revolves around the concept that other people must have less than you in order for you to feel happy, like all capitalists.

For the average person, you won't get far as a capitalist if your goal is to make money. The vast majority are focused on creating something that people will want and need. It is you that chooses to focus on a few who measure success by their wealth.

Defiant gear is amazing concept because it makes everyone equal. Then it's easier to make friends to go kill skeletons rather than comparing breastplates like teenagers in the shower after football practice.
|
But everyone is not equal, they have different strengths and weaknesses, different goals and objectives, and no amount of giving equal rewards will make them equal.
I have more faith in those who don't get the best gear. I do not believe they are as petty as you seem to think they are. They understand why we don't just make everyone equal by making them max level when they log in. They know that certain bragging rights come with being level 50, just as certain bragging rights come with obtaining difficult to obtain gear. People come to games to have goals laid out for them and barriers to their accomplishment, it is what games have always been about.
