Yes, for most people in EQ, gear is like the size of the penis. Having better gear than someone is like having a bigger dick, it makes them feel better about themselves at the expense of someone else, that's why it's wrong.
With defiant gear, every penis is the same size, so no more comparing and thinking they're better than other people. It basically eliminates the hardcore vs casual line of thinking and will foster friendly relationships across the server as a whole.

The server is friendly. I am by no means an elite player. The most expensive item I have is 400pp, and the highest char I have is 31. I don't mind that other players have 100k worth of gear, they put more time in to the game and therefore have more. Isn't that the appeal of the game for newb and veteran alike? to have a challenge, sometimes almost seemingly impossible mobs, camps or raids. But slowly over time (maybe years) you achieve your goal.
I say go to live if you want all that other stuff. It's free.
