Is it possible to have both P99 version of EQ installed as well as the current SoE version? I tried installing the Steam client version, but when I tired logging into P99, it was using the Steam drive to load up from for some reason, giving me all kinds of errors, stating it needed to be updated, etc.
Now I'd like to pop into EQ vent out my anger and frustration in zones that I keep getting killed because of trains or people with bad pulls, and wipe out that zone with my level 70s. Then return back to 99 and enjoy the game as it used to be, when I had the most fun.
So far a couple of tricks I tried doesn't seem to work, P99 keeps finding the steam client.

You need completely different installs at different locations.
As an example, I use a thumb drive to play from, on any computer.
I have top file system for each intal... eq live, eq test, p99...
In each file is the full game install.
Each install will have it's own .exe file to start the game with. Make a short cut for it by clicking on it, create shortcut. Move shortcut to the top directory and rename to note the install it's going to run.
So for this example you would have 3 files with each separate client instal, and 3 icons to start the games listed EQ, LIVE, P99... click the one you want to play. or even run at the same time...
