I love how the OP's sarcastic stab comparing the current game to classic has been derailed by real classic memories.

I remember being a newbie wood elf druid venturing from the Orc Lift to Orc Hill, and coming upon the entrance to Crushbone. The foreboding music, the dark of night, and big orcs hitting like trucks. This was a giant leap from my first moments hanging by the old druid ruins killing bees and wolves, and running to the guards when in trouble.

There was such a sense of danger, not knowing where I was going or what lied ahead, and the fear of dying and not being able to find or get to my body.

It was so easy to find a group then. No one cared what class you played, or even how well you played it at first. We were all learning on the fly, feeling out what we liked to play, and feeling secure in a full group even if we didn't have this or that. Having a tank in the group was nice, a healer a bonus, a bard a treat. You took what you could get and had a blast.
