You are talking about a very specific scenario, where there is a nearly full group that is refusing a player simply because they are a hybrid. A lot of places are overcamped and can be duo'd/trio'd due to mob scarcity... in this instance, it would be detrimental to invite any class, but a hybrid just makes it that much worse.
The instance that would occur most frequently when I was playing was something like this. My brother and I would be duoing temple in city of mist, easily clearing about 12 mobs every half hour because that was all we could find. People would come up and see that there were only 2 and ask to join. I would politely decline and state that were are barely enough mobs to keep us busy due to the zone being overcamped. (The hybrid discussion is irrelevant here).

No, that doesn't make you an asshole. But if you have 5 people and are looking for a 6th, you have every role covered, and you deny the spot to a hybrid simply because they're playing a hybrid, then you are being asslike. What we're talking about is a very specific scenario, yes, but it's one you see a LOT of on Blue.
