Lightning bolt had a smell interrupt component yes, but I don't think it was as much as shock of lightning. It wasn't a stun but had some push to it. Yeah, lightning bolt didn't have a stun component until years later:

In all the old spdats, spells like lightning bolt and a cleric's L5 furor have pushback values of 0 (incidentally, live Lucy lists them at 0.25 and 0.5, respectively) whereas other spells that lack evidence of pushing simply have no value.

what about the fact that every necro wanted holgresh beads to tap?
Lifetaps do their full damage even if the target has only a single hitpoint left.
