Purist:
"Free speech is the apex of our society's values. If you don't like it, maybe you should be the one moving to a country that doesn't advocate it."
Wow, ignorance of what free speech means combined with utter, glaring hypocrisy. Free speech puts limits on what the government can do to regulate communication, it has nothing to do with what I deem to be valuable or worthless. You say I'm bad for telling people they should move to another country due to believing differently than I do(and you miss my real point), but then tell me to move to a different country because I believe differently than you do. Are you kidding me? Do you truly not see your own hypocrisy in that? You really think you should have the right to tell me I am wrong in believing that I have the right to tell someone else they are wrong? WTF moron.
My real point was that building a nation that can hold its own in a competitive world requires certain hard decisions about behavior towards outsiders be made, as well as curtailing individual freedoms of those within the nation, in order to maximize competitiveness. The things Eccentricaa and others rail against are precisely what made us powerful enough to be a nation with choices rather than a subservient people bowing to the will of others. I wasn't saying "Love it or leave it!" I was saying "What you rail against is what we need to remain strong enough to compete in the world. Try to carve out a nation with your panty-waist values and see how well you do." Thereby showing the need to keep the values that keep us competitive.
If liberalism prevails, in 50 years our children will be fighting to get housekeeping jobs in Beijing, and saying “yessah, massah Chang Dong Pang, I be cleanin the rugs bettah, no needs to beats me massah.”
Taxi2:
"Yeah, america is always defending itself!"
I never said it was solely about defense. I actually implied (and meant, see above) the opposite when I said "carve out its own niche..."
Eccentricaa:
"By this do you mean your values? Or are you discussing religious values written in your holy book?"
By this I mean the values that made our society great. What holy book are you talking about? Or is this that other great liberal pastime besides hypocrisy and ignorance, namely the straw man argument?
Eccentricaa:
"I am not the one who is intolerant of other people's opinions, telling you to leave your country, because your values do not match mine."
Again with the hypocrisy. Obviously you are intolerant of other peoples' opinions, or you wouldn't be attacking my opinions and saying that I shouldn’t be posting them in public.
Side note: So do you denounce Purist for telling me to leave the country?
Eccentricaa:
"Every citizen in this country, regardless of their religion or lack there of, deserve to have a say in how this government should be run."
We should do that sometime. Unfortunately the lunatic left has managed to highjack our country, and pervert its values and institutions. Poll after poll shows more Americans identify as conservative rather than liberal, yet our country has been lurching to the left since FDR, both fiscally and socially. Democrats run as centrists, then appoint judges (who far more than the legislature are the arbiters of what is 'right' and 'wrong') from the far left, who decide that babies can be killed, the government can seize private property to sell to Wal-Mart, whether gay marriage is legal/ illegal, etc. etc. etc.
So yes, we agree here completely. Every citizen should have an equal say in government. But the conservative voices have been silenced by shenanigans pulled by both political parties. And now that checks on that voice are being removed, you will hear it this coming election. And every election after that.
Eccentricaa:
"People get worked up about burning a flag. Those same people pollute our air, fail to vote, beat their wives, cheat on their taxes, toss cigarettes and litter out the car window, waste tons of food, overflow our landfills, break the law, bail on child support, molest our children, and destroy this country in so many more ways than simply burning a flag."
So people who are against burning the flag are also criminals? Any sort of facts to back up this crime wave from anti-flag burners? Of course not, you are a liberal and don't need facts to believe something, or to believe someone else is the stupid, deluded one for not believing the same as you. All the while believing that you are the tolerant one.
Eccentricaa:
"If you are someone who TRULY takes pride in this county, then you too should be doing something about it. Being the little keyboard warrior, bashing folks here wont change shit."
Even more hypocrisy. You are all about free speech, and now you tell me not to post my opinion. You also say I shouldn't post because it won't do any good... so why exactly are you posting here?
Goobles:
"Has anyone ever thought about how many Muslims were in the WTCs when they fell?"
At least 10.
