Dayz one of the best games out right now. If you like pvp and you can deal with permadeath/full item loot you will have a great time.
Having buddies to play with makes a big difference. Lots of traveling. Lots of gearing up.
Once you get the hang of it and can recognize cities and landmarks getting around is easy and you can usually get to your body or loot someone else's body by heading to popular war zones.

True for the mod, not the standalone, unless you like all youve done getting wiped once in a while, i dont play that game like a mindless quake shooter myself.
