A few buddies of mine played druids back in the day and it always seemed like they were 2x ahead of me in terms of experience (They did play a lot more than I did). I've always heard that druids are one of the best solo classes in the game, as kiting is effective in many areas.
On that note, I am a level 19 completely untwinked cleric and even though it takes a LONG time for me to level soloing, it's completely possible. Especially against undead. I've seen people solo untwinked rogues to 30 (not really sure why you would do that) and i've seen necromancers who always had a group. It all depends on your play style. I assure you that you can do the things that are enjoyable to you while still progressing in levels.
