It's one thing to admit to liking Top Gun in 1986, if you were under 16-ish at the time, but to still consider it even remotely good in 2014 is... weird. The movie was so vacuous and insubstantial, like some stupid overlong propaganda music video. The fact that it pushed Cruise so high says a lot. In retrospect, practically all of Cruise's movies have this sort of seeding.
The gayness of it is quite different from Sam and Frodo and much more blatant. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The only reason most people didn't catch it back in the day is because we, as a society, were completely closeted and ignorant.
