I wish that I could agree with the OP. There is nothing classic about the xp rate and it is really fast with a full group.
But I can't. Because it's blatantly obvious that half of our population won't play here without easy xping and we need every warm body that we can get right now. We're seeing 200's on at a time and I think it's fair to say that if Velious released, it would jump to 300-400 with the current rates.
It's serving it's purpose, though only to an extent. A lot of these new players are outleveling the chance to keep up on gear and spells, despite the generosity of a lot of the vets here, so they'll be ill-equipped for pvp later on and likely quit out of frustration.

Xp bonuses aren't an all or nothing sort of deal. It would have been better if the devs started with something lower (always easy to increase it, but decreasing will always piss people off) but it's never set in stone. It's not an on/off switch, you know? And right now it is simply too much.
I still don't understand why a bonus was implemented at all 50+, where groups were already happening.
This doesn't feel like EQ to me.
