You said wizards were useless in a pve thread. I'm going to point out and stand by that one. Take it in any context you like.
Why are you talking about PvE and trying to conflate it with PvP? So pointless.

Timeline has a lot to do with people being able to farm/level up whatever they want in a 5+ year period.
Kunark-era melee with non-perfect equipment are already better than casters. It's not even hard to get some of the epic weapons. Improving the equip even more just makes them that much stronger. Farming has nothing to do with how flawed the mechanics of the game are. Farming simply shows what a TIME SINK the game is, instead of how much SKILL the game requires from the player.

The main point, though, is that EQ simply isn't designed for PvP. If EQ was actually a great PvP game, things like snares would have set durations/recharges/applications that become part of the entire skill of playing the game. Instead, EQ PvP just has this ridiculous system where any type of interesting effect is resisted 90+ percent of the time, but if they do land then they have a ridiculous duration...but everyone can get self-removal via clickies. In actuality it should require specific abilities (mainly from the Priest classes) to remove the effects.

The combat mechanics in EQ are ridiculously primitive and often soporific. The one thing the game has going for it with regards to PvP is that it takes place in an open world RPG environment. Given that the EQ game world inherently has a lot of danger, this is what makes the idea of PvP in EQ extremely fun and interesting. If only that idea could be developed much better.
