I'm about as much of a newb as possible. Started playing in February on blue, made it to 30, then tried red starting a couple weeks ago. Never played EQ before. Red has been way more fun.

I just went 14-31 in Unrest. Why? It was the best option for me starting with nothing as I was familiar with it, good xp, good coin, gear upgrades. All of those things in one place limited travel time and just allowed me to play. I don't know where else I would have gone.

That said the twink PK'rs were somewhat frustrating at first but after just sticking with it, it wasn't really that bad. Multiple times with full groups we were able to at least chase them off. I don't know that we ever killed one. But it was fun trying and good practice.

I mean it sucks getting coined when you are new and can't even keep up on spell costs but it seemed like every time I was the worst off someone would randomly throw some coin or gems to help out. I met a number of really cool, helpful people. Well worth the small amount of grief I saw.

Anyway. I wouldn't avoid the zone. But make sure you go in with the right mindset. Band up and fight back and if that doesn't work and the odds are too stacked against you leave or play another character or do something else for a while. Just enjoy the game and don't get tunnel vision as to allow others to take away your enjoyment. There are always options.
