Best upgrades will probably be MH/OH. Pick up a Sacrificial Dagger (
http://wiki.project1999.com/Sacrificial_Dagger). Can usually grab one pretty cheap. Can't do the Stein of Moggok quest, as not an enchanter, but can probably pick one up for not too costly.
Only way I have found to get decent starting items with the little money I had was to sit in EC and watch what people are spamming. OR, use this tool (
http://ahungry.com/eqauctions/ ) and see what people are posting without having to sit in EC.
Edit: Best time to do this is later in the day, when more people are online and theirs competition for business. Or better yet, during the weekend.
