Thanks for the support. My suspension was a little less boring thanks to you guys. It did get me thinking about a little analogy. I don’t ever make long posts so bear with me, if not that’s cool too. Probably just delirium from sleep loss.
Blue99 is europe. Red99 is like the united states before colonization.
Now, the native americans had strange customs. Some would say difference senses of humor and logic. A lot less people too, compared to the rest of the civilized world. I liked it that way. Our way of life and customs gave me great pleasure. That time has come to an end.
It's interesting to me that the GMs or I could be considered good and helpful people, yet our views are so different in so many ways. Rogean called my work grotesque, he's clearly repulsed by someone like me. That got me thinking.
You have to put yourself in the shoes of bluebies and GMs. I do this by listening to their twitch channel and observing their comradery. Think about the things they say, and the things they laugh about and find humorous.
To put it lightly, that type of humor and conversation makes my skin crawl and I feel very uncomfortable listening to it. You may find that absurd, but I’m not exaggerating in the slightest. Now in turn, you have to remind yourself every now and then that they feel that very same way about our interactions on red.
This is obvious logic, but sometimes you need to truly feel that disgust for something and for a lack of a better term, manually associate it for a moment in order to genuinely empathize with an opposite viewpoint.
It's easy to do this when I read comments the blues make about why they don't want to play here, such as "the ooc is unbearable". Immediately my nose wrinkles like I have smelled shit, because I know deep down that person is a huge pussy and a tool. The type of person that would nod their heads to a Nickelback song. That's not only the blue server, 95% of people who play everquest have this aura about them. Jim Jeffries for example, would not be welcome in our community even though he is a swell guy.
They don't need to understand our collective sense of humor or allow us to keep living the way we have (corpse camping, etc). Basically they are trying to colonize red99 in the name of bluebs, and make the server in their image. It will always be the majority's right to do so.
I can't really blame them. Server is more cost effective if more blues are playing on it. It's not so bad being a minority. You get to appreciate vastly different things and move onto new stuff before others do. However, every once in a while you blues could try to put yourself in my shoes for a second and think about what I find repulsive. Then you'd really know what it feels like to have to hold your tongue. Dare I say it would drive someone of your constitution mad. Maybe you might even have more respect for someone who is your polar opposite.
I wish I could take all of you pals to a reservation where we could practice our ways in peace.
tldr : differences in humor shouldn't garner all of this abrasiveness, we could all be a little more objective sometimes
