Well this server is more like a 'hobby' for us old timers, opposed to it being a new never before seen amazing alternate fantasy reality. So people might have multiple characters, and that means they're playing them for fun, and gearing up is fun! I like rawhide armor as much as the next guy, but if I have a full set of Mithral I would probably want that on my next character, cus after all, that's why I'm making a second character, cus I like that class at 50! So why not gear em up to that level if I can.
That said, I see some geared up toons sometimes in BB or CB and it looks a tad bit obnoxious, so going full bright blue mystic armor at level4, isn't exactly for me
