In all regards empires were built from slaves, from the banks of the nile to the gold paved roads of Rome. The point I'm getting at is the slaves of Africa were not hunted and gathered by European powers but rather forced into slavery by the conquering Muslim empires that stretch back all the way to the early 14th century.

There was no need to "hunt and catch" when the port cities under foreign control were subjugated into an expansive, colonist empire to which people that shifted sovereignty over to these powers incensed themselves to be enslaved on all social strata.

Regardless what you think but in the earlier parts of human history you had a choice, become enslaved by the empire who destroyed your culture, or become completely written out of history books, it was much easier to swallow working for your enemy and retaining some shred of your cultures preservation, than to be piled thousands high in some unmarked grave.
"The majority of European conquests, raids and enslavements occurred toward the end or after the transatlantic slave trade. One exception to this is the conquest of Ndongo in current day Angola where Ndongo's slaves, warriors, free citizens and even nobility were taken into slavery by the Portuguese conquerors after the fall of the state."

While the majority were sold in to slavery, don't try to pretend they all were. And don't pretend it was a voluntary indentured servitude situation, either.
