Is this an npc's pet hitting you? Just to clarify. Likely a message issue, as the messaging for pets and owners is kind of wacky.
The damage is handled seperate from messages for pet and non-melee damage.
Are others around? See if they see damage messages, specifically the burned type. Thats from the damage packet.
