There is room in parenting for corporal punishment. For instance, autistic children are difficult to reason with. Verbal discipline has little effect. They respond better to other methods, like striking, pinching, burning, etc.
What's unfortunate is how many parents resort to striking their child out of frustration. Their anger bleeds through. This can cause a great deal of confusion. It's important the child knows you're only hurting them because you love them. To remind them of this, I find it's helpful when beating a child to occasionally lift your shirt so they can see your boner.
