well i guess you figured out a solution..
maybe i can offer an alternative? are you currently using multi-threading to run the game? if so, it would make sense that it is crashing. if you are not sure, then try
right clicking the launcher and checking "compatibility mode" into the windows 95 setting.
i hope you dont leave, this seems to be a common thing that most people overlook (i noticed you didnt mention anything about it in your diagnostic procedure).
