Dan Aykroyd? What the fuck? That's Bill Mother Fucking Murray.
EverQuest a themepark? What? Been to EC once? Never going there again. Been to WC once? Never going there again. Also, you're never going back to Kithicor for anything every again. Yeah, not buying that one. EQ is handily a game in which the player provides their own direction, EQ doesn't hold your hand at all in guiding you. Not saying it is a Sandbox, as it falls in between, just like Eve, just like DAoC, just like SWG. Wow I hate this review.
Now he is claiming the success of WoW is because you could tell investors that people would pay $60 + $15 for a subscription, but that was a norm... By this, all MMOs before must be WoW like successes.
Okay, yes, people copied WoW. I am finally on board with this guy for a moment... Deviation from the norm was rare, correct. Still with him.
And now he is saying they consist of sandbox elements. Why are they not sandbox games with "themepark" elements? Why is it such a short sight to call pre-WoW something other than Themepark? Take WoW, you go to the Valley of Trials, you consume and expend that content (ridden the roller coaster) and you move on to the next area, Senjin Village. You consume the content, and move on. How many of you can really say you've moved on from West Freeport? EC? That's not a themepark, you're constantly working around within the same large space to do a variety of different things. You're not just shitting out quest after quest.
