Have you ever applied to a job? Ever hired for one? This is really no different. You submit an application, it's reviewed and if they are interested you will be contacted.
If you haven't heard anything you can safely assume the answer is no. Most companies (or unpaid volunteer staff) don't have the time or desire to reach out to dozens if not hundreds of people just to tell them "tough shit".

I agree with your analogy except for comparing a company looking for paid employees to a volunteer program asking for others to volunteer 20+ hours a week of their time.
If you ask someone to give 20 hours a week to essentially help you, and they offer to do so, giving them 20 seconds to say, "thanks, but we've gone a different way" should not be inconceivable.
Treating others the way you wish to be treated is a dying concept but one I wholeheartedly stand behind.
My mother used to run the Volunteer Program at the Human Society Animal Shelter and I guarantee no one who volunteered, to clean up dog and cat shit no less, was ever simply ignored whether or not their assistance was needed.
P.S. Retti isn't this where you talk about how much you lift weights and can beat my ass in real life? I cannot help but feel pity for you.
