I punctuate like that very commonly. I'm not saying you're wrong or that your observations are without merit, I was just pointing out that the punctuation "error" you're uncovering isn't an error at all, and perhaps doesn't cement your case in quite as much since he's simply using proper (enough) grammar.
On the other hand, and given that this is the internet, almost everyone abandons grammar in favor of writing like an idiot,
