the engine itself is what was upgraded along with the models. the fact that you can still play everquest is because of the upgrade from directx 8. otherwise everyone here would have to either find some way to run a directx 8 box or somehow emulate one.

exactly, but nothing kept brad mcquaid from keeping the texture/models and just upgrading it to dx9
