Probably the biggest hindrance to starting a new classic box is the lack of cheat detection. You can throw enough semi-capable people at the content and get it right, and even a mediocre developer could probably fix most of the source, but something like modifying an existing DLL to do a bunch of sketchy shit to catch cheaters is beyond the capability of nearly all geeks.
Didn't even think of that.

Really the hardest part is having someone who knows how to the dll, and keep up with the latest macroquest builds to look for memory usage patterns.

Though a punkbuster style solution might work, could punkbuster be adapted to use with EQ? Is that code FOSS even out there?
