A speech by a veteran I respect: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akm3nYN8aG8
He pulls no punches and talks about his guilt. He learned from his mistakes and speaks frankly about it in order to share reality with potential recruits in order that they might make a better decision.
I can understand making a mistake, but part of earning back the respect of people is admitting wrongdoing.

If you respect this man, and what he says. Than why diminish him because of his service, and what he learned for it?
Good men and woman can stay home and let bad men and woman fight these wars.
A great problem exists though. Good men and woman cannot enlist. And fulfill their basic oath and maintain integrity. The orders given today while not directly wrong. Are perpetuating a horrible war and occupation of foreign lands. Even if the war officially ended, there would no doubt be military action all over the world on a continual basis.
Again. The military is not the problem in and of itself. It is a tool being wielded by corrupt people. People in the military are not evil. And soldiers live and die for your freedom. Such as it is. And the accomplishments and understanding you have today were all protected by sacrifice in the past.
You would not stand here today to debate the merits of military service without military service. I guess this is as simply as it can be put.
Attack the right people. Stop attacking our soldiers.
