the guy is an idiot and he either does't do repeat business anywhere that tipping is customary or he generally has bad experiences at these places and doesn't understand why.
I'm going to go ahead and tell him, seeing how he didn't gather it from my earlier posts.
You tip, not because you have to or because it's required, you tip for good service and so people are have an incentive to treat you better. If you visit an establishment and the waiter/waitress is on point all night long and your service couldn't have possibly been better, you tip so that he/she remembers you and you are more likely to receive that treatment again. Same with any other place where tipping is customary. Works the same way with porters in EQ, tip them well for doing a good job and you'll see that you never have to worry about a port again (I've gotten plenty of CR ports for free from porters I've tipped before and they've dropped groups to do it and then went back to what they were doing).
