The distance between you and the snared mobs determines how quickly they cluster together. If you can take the pounding, simply standing still until all are on you, then backing up a short distance and repeating will give you a very tight cluster, very quickly. Unless you're quadding relatively weak mobs, and are very well-geared, this can be quite risky. Getting stunned can really mess you up.

My usual tactic was to position so that the mobs appear to be spaced as widely apart as possible. Allow them to get nearby, but still far enough back that they can't hit you. Move away at the same speed as they approach. Backing up with SoW works, as does strafing or walking away with camera angled to show the relative range. The mobs are trying to converge on you. The closer they are, the faster they converge.
