If you are considering Warrior, I would suggest Monk instead. Monks really aren't worse tanks than warriors unless the disciplines are in play (the Adamantite Club/Stave of Shielding combo will produce as much hate as the warrior epic; they both have similar AC; and Block compensates for the lack of hitpoints). In addition Monks have a much easier epic and are less gear dependent in general. FD is obviously one of the best abilities in the game. And finally, although it seems everyone has a monk twink, there are very few really good monks on the server.

I agree with everything you said about a monk. Thing is, if this guy has little money to start with, he's not going to get any of the things that makes monks so fun to play. I leveled a monk to 50 untwinked, it sucked. AC & SoS require a good amount of money. Monks may be less gear dependent, but if he's broke, he really can't loot much because of the weight issue. Sure you can get some 55 HP Rings & a Wu's Quivering staff easily. But you won't get that nice haste, or regen, or better weapons for awhile. Looking back I would have leveled a caster to save up money, then twinked out any type of melee.
So if I were you and you have a good amount of money, go monk. If not then I'd go with either a bard or enchanter to start.
Or, if you really want to get crazy. Go Erudite Pally.
