But, the same can't be said about any group of enthusiasts. Have you ever been to a major sporting event? You have thousands of people, incredibly passionate about their hobby and their team. Also some of the rudest, foul-mouthed, most obnoxious people you'll encounter who will in fact trash the place and tell you fuck off. Lets avoid looking for specific instances to make our cases though, because they are easy to pick out and really do little to address the issue I was bringing up.
We are talking about society at large here. Some people are less than ideal company no matter where you interact with them. To expect that somehow you wouldn't encounter those people here, on this server, is just naïve. Trust me, EQC would have had exactly the same types of players and problems. Because it's human nature, not because it's localized to project1999.
If the poster had instead done what many of us have by ignoring the filth and socializing with like-minded players, he wouldn't have had such a miserable experience.

A major sporting event is just that, a major event. It's not a small group of people partaking in an unpopular hobby. It is not unreasonable to think that if i go to the model airplane club that the people will be polite, friendly and welcoming. It's not unreasonable to think the same about the local croquet association either. It shouldn't be unreasonable to think the same thing about a 15 year old game that has maybe a few thousand regular players.
Nobody expects that they will never meet a rude person, but the general attitude of people that have played here for longer than a couple months is a lot shittier than most people would expect. To tell people that they shouldn't expect any better is bullshit, and tells me that you are probably one of those people with a shitty disposition that causes this server to be populated by the same few hundred high end people with a low end population that is essentially a revolving door.
Eventually P99 is going to run out of those friendly and enthusiastic new players and just be stuck with nothing but the jaded, disgruntled, basement dwelling neckbeards that take their frustrations out on each other.
