I just don't understand the allure to PvP in an MMO. It's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Play Mortal Kombat if you want 1v1 stuff. Or even an FPS game if you're into the competition against each other. MMO's were built to work together to achieve something. But there are plenty of people who like it I suppose. Different strokes for different folks!

To me man, it gives a "real feel" to it. A sense of Danger from another unpredictable source. not just another mindless Mob.
just adds a little spice.
Plus what happens on Non-Pvp when you have played for a while and have all the leet gear? what do you do with said leet gear? let people look at it? that is what does it for me. PvP players IMO will get more out of Endgame than non-pvp <-- just my opinion this is not fact.
Ok, we all know EQ is not real life (well to most it isn't) but it "emulates" a real life fantasy scenario. So to make it as true to life as it can be you almost need pvp. you are not only fighting the monsters (that to be honest really don't bother anyone unless you invade their lairs) you are also fighting the common people, the thieves, liars, taken to a next level the murderers just like in any scenario where people exist.
C'mon you have to ask yourself how many times has that guy/gal said something or did something on purpose that just pissed you off... Said something offensive or trained mobs on you "kill steals" what can you do? i guess nothing but /zone complain about how he or she is an ass.
again these are just my views and why i love PVP. The irony is I never go pick a fight i just like the chance that if i want to the choice is there. True Sandbox.
as far as this
"MMO's were built to work together to achieve something."
same thing happens in PVP. except when that person does something to hinder your progress you can do something back.
it also brings people together to work together in groups to be safe, and forms stronger bonds not just the thanks for the group and never see you again. PvP has its pros and cons but so does Non-Pvp.
i guess Evil and Good after all is just a point of view.
