i can confirm this, although there are ways to ease the load.
generally you will need help from other players to kill 'named' or rare mobs. this isn't much of a problem because most of the game requires you to group with other players to kill stuff -- especially for classes that don't solo very well, and more so as you gain levels.
the toughest stuff in the game takes several groups -- this is where guilds come in
