Turn all your windows graphics down to XP level, it helps a remarkable amount. You'll be fine with that setup.
Also dual-core laptops have a lot of random issues, I mostly play on one. When I boot EQ I either get a normal running EQ or a laggy one. I'll have to close and reopen EQ a couple times to get a good boot. Or you can run a youtube video on mute in the background which fixes that lag.
If you run into problems you'll need to set the affinity by right clicking on your EQ icon > properties > target box. And add:
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "EverQuest" /BelowNormal /affinity 1 "C:\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme

I did not realize I even had a dual core... Isn't dual core better than one core? (Sorry, I am practically PC illiterate...) How do I turn my graphics to XP level? I wont be able to run Youtube the same time I play the game for sure, either the lap top is not good enough or my connection is not so that is out of the question. Why are there random issues with dual cores in the first place? This lap top is old, shouldn't they have fixed those issues by now? I will try your suggestion for right clicking and adding that line of text.
