Original Diablo devs all drunk on hookers and blow. Only colledge certified dumbasses getting hired at AAA studios to make games now.
Best games are gear independent. But gear makes the game "more interesting".
See some Roguelikes and DnD.
Seriously though looking forward to some indy games coming off of kickstarter. Or some updates to old school roguelikes.
Or a fan remake of classics like Diablo II etc...
