Your case isn't all that rare Tsenor. No matter what these people say. I have gotten hundreds of new players asking to buy plat from me on the forums. I informed them otherwise and in many cases gave them something in game to get them started.
And like you I didn't even know about the forums here for the first 3-4 months I was on the server.
