I actually just made a high elf pally and put everything into STA, although Danth's post makes me think twice about it.
However, the main contributing factor for me was that high-strength items tend to be both cheap and quite common. I bought a hero bracer and crested helm for my pally and that's already decent strength right there for 500pp.
Whatever you do, don't put anything into agility! lol
