Constitutional amendments have been repealed in the past. Laws change. Societies change. Static states decay and die horrible deaths of tenacious, self-righteous importance.
I don't think many people were frothing over the 18th amendment when it was proven to be a miserable failure to the safety and security of the United States and was eventually repealed.
Societal norms are important, as is historical context. Thomas Jefferson thought the Constitution should be rewritten in its entirety every generation because of this.
